Jewellery Cleaner Solution

Jewellery Cleaner Solution

When a piece of jewellery becomes dull, dirty, or tarnished, it is usually because of build-up from everyday wear and tear. Fortunately, there are many cleaner solutions on the market that can be used safely to remove dirt, grime and oils from jewellery pieces made of different materials. To determine which cleaner is best for a particular jewelry item, it is important to determine what the most delicate component of the item is. This may include a porous gemstone like pearl or amber, or it may be the metal plating on a necklace or bracelet.

In most cases, the type of discoloration that a cleaner will remove can be determined by looking at the ingredients of the product. Some common ingredients found in jewelry cleaners include bleach, ammonia, and chlorine. Bleach and ammonia are harsh chemicals that can damage certain types of jewelry and even irritate the skin. Jewelry cleaners that contain chlorine are also very harsh and should not be used to clean fine jewellery items.

The best jewellery cleaner solution contains mild ingredients that will not damage the piece being cleaned or irritate the skin. A few of our favourite jewellery cleaners include Brilliant Jewelry Cleaner, which is ammonia-free and safe for gold, silver, platinum and non-porous gems. A little bit of this solution goes a long way and can be used to clean most jewellery items including plated metals and gemstones.

Another great homemade jewellery cleaner solution is white toothpaste (not gel). The mild abrasives found in this product will help lift light tarnishing from most silver pieces, leaving them shiny and new. To use this jewellery cleaner hack, just mix a few drops of toothpaste into warm water, soak your jewellery pieces for a few minutes and gently scrub them with an old toothbrush to help lift the tarnishing. Then rinse your jewellery well and let dry completely.

If you don’t have the time to make a homemade jewellery cleaner, you can always visit a jeweller to have your item professionally cleaned. Most professional jewelry cleaners will have a specialised jewellery cleaning solution that is safe to use on almost all types of jewellery. They will also have an ultrasonic cleaner that will clean the pieces more thoroughly than you could ever get at home, using a process called cavitation to quickly and effectively take off all dirt, grime, and oils from your jewellery.
